Devendra – A Question from the Yaksha Once, there was a fierce battle between the gods and demons. Thanks to the Supreme Being’s grace, the gods won. After the fight, they gathered to celebrate and honor everyone who had fought bravely. They adorned Agni (the Fire God) and Vayu (the Wind God) with flower garlands and praised them. The gods were extremely happy, and it made them forget about the Supreme Being for a moment. Suddenly, a giant Yaksha appeared before them, reaching up to the sky, and the gods were terrified. They wondered if this was a trick from the demons, and they weren’t sure what to do. While they were still praising Devendra (Indra), he called Agni to find out who the Yaksha was. Agni was scared because arrogant people often see even divine beings as threats. Despite his fear, Agni approached the Yaksha. The Yaksha asked, “Who are you?” Agni replied, “I am Agni. What powers do you have?” The Yaksha said, “I can burn the whole world in an instant.” Agni thought, “That’s impressive! Can you burn the demon?” The Yaksha picked up a piece of grass and said, “Burn this.” At that moment, the Supreme Being took away Agni’s fiery power, and Agni couldn't burn the grass. Defeated, he returned to the other gods. Next, Indra sent Vayu, the Wind God. Nervously, Vayu approached the Yaksha. The Yaksha asked, “Who are you?” Vayu answered, “I am Vayu. What can you do?” The Yaksha boasted, “I can sweep the whole world away in a moment.” Indra was intrigued. The Yaksha then challenged Vayu to lift the blade of grass. Just like with Agni, the Supreme Being took away Vayu's powers, and he couldn't lift it either. Humbled now, Indra went to the Yaksha to pay his respects. At that moment, the Yaksha transformed into a beautiful woman, known as “Brahma Vidya Devi Aima Vati Uma.” She then taught Indra about Brahma Vidya, the knowledge of the ultimate reality, which helped him become free from bondage. The lesson from this story is that God is the true doer of everything. We often get caught up in our pride and say, "I did this." To overcome this mindset, the Supreme Being reminds us that in all times, we should recognize that we cannot act on our own. It's the Supreme Being who makes everything happen. That’s the main message here.
