How Shiva Took Alms from Annapoorneshwari
Once, Lord Shiva told his wife Parvati that everything in the material world, including food, was just an illusion. Hurt by his words, Parvati vanished, leaving the three worlds without any food. People began to suffer and starve, and even the gods were at a loss, desperately wondering how to bring food back to Earth.
Realizing how much Parvati was hurting, Shiva understood the true importance of food and its sacredness. The other gods soon learned that Parvati had transformed herself into Annapurna, the goddess of nourishment, and had taken residence in the holy city of Kashi. From her kitchen, Annapurna generously began serving food to everyone, and soon the city was filled with joy as people enjoyed her offerings.
Moved by her compassion, Lord Shiva himself traveled to Kashi, holding a bowl in his hands, and humbly asked Annapurna for alms. The sight of even the mighty Shiva, the lord of the universe, seeking food from Annapurna warmed the hearts of many. This act showed that everyone, regardless of their stature, should honor and appreciate the gift of nourishment. It was a beautiful reminder that food is sacred, and the love behind it can unite even the greatest of divine beings.
