*Fasting - The Oldest Medicine*
——-
I may have shared this before, but it’s really worth shedding more light on.
- To those who have been on this broadcast for a while, you by now know that our bodies were not made for frequent eating.
- Our prehistoric ancestors probably ate once a day, or once in two days. ‘Breakfast’, ‘lunch’ and ‘dinner’ are ‘creatures’ of the food industry. Even in my own native language, we didn’t have a word for ‘lunch’ or ‘dinner’.
- Our ancestors obviously had a lot of energy. We know this because the more frequently one eats, the higher the blood sugar and the weaker (and more lethargic) one feels.
- Fasting is therefore the oldest medicine. Our ancestors ate less frequently, which meant that they experienced regular autophagy.
- What is *autophagy*? It mostly happens when we fast. Let me try and explain it as simply as possible, then highlight its benefits broadly.
