The administration and the authorities of Jamia Milia Islamia have unleashed all forms of coercion to ensure that no voice of resistance, questioning, or demands for due basic rights of the students are heard. The repeated manuals, notices and circulars to Institutionalize this crack-down on voices of the students has only shown their true colours further. This has gone to the extent of ensuring that student activist and students-right workers are systematically identified and handed showcause notices.
In this regard, the students of Jamia Milia Islamia university have given a clarion for peacefully protesting against such measures of the authorities and have been stern on their protest ever since, despite provocative actions of the university authority to intimidate students by force.
This attack on the democratic rights of students is not restricted to Jamia alone. We are seeing in JNU how the administration is continually trying to squeeze our rights especially since the implementation of the CPO Manual. At every juncture when we demand our basic rights from water in hostels to protection from harrasment, we are targetted with hefty fines. Further, even the spaces for holding public meetings and lectures are also being curtailed. The RSS-ABVP get free access to the lecture halls and auditoriums to hold their events whereas all other organisations and students are denied these spaces as well.
We, the students federation of India, Jawaharlal Nehru University Unit extend our full solidarity with the protesting students of Jamia, and give a clarion further to all the students community around the country to raise their voice against authoritarian suppression and snatch away the Right to freedom of speech and expression.
Right to protest long live
Right to debate, dissent long live.
Right to question long live.
