*Condemn the playing of communal songs at CHS Freshers Party*
SFI JNU Unit strongly condemns the playing religious fanatic songs during the CHS Freshers party on the night of Feb 22. During the event, Some ABVP members allegedly played religious fanatic songs such as Shri Ram Janki Baithe Hai Mere Seene mein, Bharat Ka Bachcha Bachcha Jai Shri Ram Bolega etc. despite being opposed by the secular minded students of CHS.
These kinds of gatherings are not spaces to commemorate religious propaganda. Gatherings for fresher's are supposed to impart the progressive cultural ethos and legacy of JNU to the newly coming students.
Secularism is enshrined within our constitution. We inculcate unity in diversity within our society whether it comes to religion, languages, culture, gender, region, race, colour, sex etc. JNU used to provide a safe and harmonious educational place from all community, however the goons of the sangh have always tried to diminish the institutional and cultural legacy of JNU. We have seen recently video circulating on social media Delhi’s CM Rekha Gupta allegedly defaming JNU and saying JNU Should be closed! It is this kind of thought that always comes from the Sangh Parivar.
It must be highlighted that ABVP has been using cultural programs and gatherings continually as spaces of othering minority communities. True to their fascist roots, they promote all forms of divisive and disrespectful practices. It is high the student community unitedly resists these practices across all spaces.
SFI JNU stands firmly in the support of students of JNU to stop such activities. We assure the students of CHS that they are not alone in their struggle for upholding secular values.
