*Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has ordered retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. in response to President Donald Trump's imposition of a 25% tariff on Mexican goods.* While Sheinbaum expressed a preference for cooperation over confrontation, she directed the economy minister to implement both tariff and non-tariff measures to safeguard Mexico's interests. Sheinbaum also highlighted Mexico's efforts in combating drug trafficking, noting the seizure of 20 million doses of synthetic opioid fentanyl and the arrest of over 10,000 individuals linked to drug-related crimes since she assumed office in October. Trump's tariffs were justified on the grounds of Mexico's alleged failure to prevent fentanyl trafficking into the U.S. and issues related to uncontrolled migration.
