📌 *A Life-Changing Lesson on the Day of Arafah*
`Must Read` 💌
_One of the brothers shared this touching story:_
Exactly a year ago, my supermarket experienced an electrical short circuit, and a fire broke out that destroyed more than three-quarters of my goods.
This incident happened just two days before the Day of Arafah!
You can imagine the state I was in — about to enter Eid al-Adha, yet my business, my goods, my shop, and my entire situation were in complete ruin. No Eid gifts, no celebration, no joy — only sadness, worry, and overwhelming debt.
At that time, I was newly married — just two months into marriage.
The goods that were burned were worth around $15,000. I began asking myself:
What should I do?
How can I fix this?
Should I ask my wife to sell her gold, even though she’s still a new bride?
Should I borrow money? From whom?
I decided that the best solution was to borrow from my friends. But every time I approached one of them, they would say, “Eid is approaching, forgive me — I can’t help you right now.”
For two days, I stayed in this state — stressed and desperate. In the end, I was only able to collect $800 from friends and acquaintances — a drop in the ocean compared to what I lost.
That night, I returned home and ran into my neighbor on the way. He greeted me, “Eid Mubarak, my friend! Don’t forget to fast tomorrow!”
I thought to myself, Fast? In this situation? Just leave me alone...
My wife, trying to lift my spirits, suggested we take a walk. We went out, but I was drowning in sorrow and couldn’t enjoy anything — my mind was consumed by worry.
When we got home, she said, “Let’s prepare for suhoor; dawn is near.”
I replied bitterly, “Suhoor? I forgot that tomorrow is the Day of Arafah!
You and I are living in two completely different worlds right now. *What suhoor? What Arafah? Don’t you see our situation?”*
She gently said, “Allah has decreed this for us. He will not abandon us. But we must fast.”
She insisted — so we made the intention to fast.
As sunset approached, she told me, “Pray to your Lord.”
I said, “Pray for what?”
She answered, “Pray for anything you desire.”
I replied, “Should I ask for $15,000 to fall from the sky? Is that even possible?”
She said, “The One who created the sky is capable of all things.”
She left me and began praying and supplicating to Allah. I also made dua, though honestly, all I could think about was that $15,000 — I wanted my happiness back.
An hour after Maghrib, one of my friends called and said, “Come meet me at the café, I need to talk to you.”
I went to the café, and he said, “Brother, I can’t think of anyone better than you for this opportunity. A friend of mine just received a payout from a savings group and wants to invest the money in a business. What do you think about partnering with him?”
I was overjoyed and we called the man — he came to meet us at the café.
He said, “I have $30,000, and I need to invest it.”
I told him, “My supermarket needs $15,000 worth of new stock. How about you invest half in stock and the other half in refurbishing the store? You’ll get 50% of the profits after recovering your full investment.”
We agreed. I renovated the supermarket, restocked it, and reopened it after Eid. That day, I was flying with happiness.
*Oh! I forgot to mention — just a week before the supermarket fire, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. We had done medical tests, and the results were due on the Day of Arafah.*
The results came back negative — she was healthy and not sick!
When my mother heard the news, she cried all day out of gratitude to Allah.
The supermarket reopened, my mother was healed, and to top it all off, my wife called me and told me she had taken a surprise test — she was pregnant!
She was overjoyed and then asked me:
_“Now do you see the power of fasting and praying on the Day of Arafah?”_
I said to myself, SubhanAllah... just a few days ago I felt like the world was collapsing on me, and now everything has turned around with a single sincere prayer.
That day, I learned a lesson in humility before Allah that I will never forget.
Allah is with us. Sometimes He tests us with hardship so that we return to Him and repent.
After Eid, the supermarket was running well and the $30,000 investment had been recovered. I went to return the money to its owner — but the story took an unexpected turn.
He said, “To be honest, the money was never mine to begin with. It was donated by someone whose wife was cured of cancer. They wanted to help you anonymously and support you in your time of crisis.”
“This money is yours — no one will ask for it back.”
By Allah, I went home and locked myself in my room. I wept like a child for an entire hour — overwhelmed by the generosity and mercy of Allah.
Even now, every time I remember this story, I cry not just tears — but tears of blood — regretting the time I spent distant from my Lord, even though His mercy was always so near.
This experience taught me the true meaning of the Day of Arafah, of fasting, of supplication, of trusting in Allah.
It was the turning point in my life — the reason I repented and became committed to my faith again.
📝 *The Lesson:*
> Sometimes Allah gives by withholding, and withholds by giving — this is His divine wisdom.
As we approach the blessed first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, let us strive in supplication and remember our oppressed brothers and sisters around the world.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
_“Whoever guides someone to goodness will have a reward like the one who did it.”_ (Muslim)
