*HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE PAST WEEK* *MDC PRESIDENT IN NYANGA* _His message to the people of Zimbabwe_ Movement for Democratic Change President Honourable Senator Douglas Mwonzora went to Nyanga to mourn a member of the party, Timothy Madziwa, he took time after the funeral to meet village heads, aspiring MPs, Chiefs, MDC Members and the General populace who had burning questions about various issues and in particular the Electoral Process and the reforms this country needs and the delimitation report. *Below is his address to the People of Nyanga.* In early 2023, the MDC filed a Constitutional Court application challenging the Delimitation Report produced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and gazetted by President Mnangagwa and the basis of our application was; *1)* ZEC did not take into account the final results of the population census because it is legally impossible to do any delimitation without knowing the number of people in the country and in each ward or constitution. *2)* The Zimbabwean Constitution clearly states that in delimitation, ZEC must ensure that each ward or constituency has the same number of registered voters as others, thereby ensuring equality of votes. The constitution, however, allows a situation where, due to other factors, the number of registered voters in each ward or constituency may differ, but this difference must never be more than 20% more less than other constituencies. In clear violation of this principle, ZEC went on to use more than 40 to 54% variation instead. In this process, they deleted some wards and constituencies in Opposition Strongholds and added them to Zanu-PF Strongholds. For instance, in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, more than 15 000 people were disenfranchised, and this was the trend nationwide. *3)* The gazzeting of the final Delimitation Report by the President was illegal in the sense that it did not give the names and boundaries of the wards and constituencies as is required by the Supreme law of the country. The gazetted report referred to annexures that were absent from the report. *The Repercussions* The repercussions are there for all now to see that the Delimitation Report opened the possibility that the election should have been successfully challenged in court resulting in an order for the election to have been set aside and and the report redone. Contrary to what a lot of people were made to believe that we filed this court because we were afraid of elections or tried to avoid them. Rather, we wanted to make sure that free, fare, and credible elections are held using the correct Delimitation Report. *Legitimising the Elections* Other people believed that Zimbabwe should just go to elections just for the sake of it and even sent Jeremiah Bamu to oppose our case in court and sided with ZEC. Now, the results are there for us to see. They went into the elections to legitimise Zanu-PF and gave it another five year mandate that they did not even challenge in the courts. The previous election produced one of the worst Parliaments Zimbabwe has ever had and the Opposition there is now colluding with Zanu PF to amend the constitution so that President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa can have a 3rd term and be a life President. That is what we, the MDC, refuse, and so you, the People of Nyanga and Manicaland, are ready to resist this move. We will mobilize and use all means necessary that are peaceful and constitutional to stop this madness. *Way Forward* Other people think that our Delimitation Case is dead in the courts. It is another channel that we can also use to dismantle this unconstitutional Parliament and Government that emanated from an unconstitutional Delimitation Report. My appeal now goes to the 2.6 million people who registered their intention to vote but stayed away from the elections, to join the MDC as we restructure the party across the country, because you are the real winners in the previous elections, since your are the majority and with your numbers we will win the next elections without doubt. I also call upon those people who are seeking a stable political party, to join the MDC and assist in changing the lives of our fellow countrymen. Thank you. *END*
