When David needed to offer a sacrifice on someone’s land, the owner offered it for free. But David refused, saying: > “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” — 2 Samuel 24:24 Though God told him he wouldn’t be the one to build the temple, he still provided all the materials and prepared his son Solomon for the task. When he had the chance to kill Saul, who was hunting him, he chose restraint, saying: > “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed…” — 1 Samuel 24:6 No wonder grace followed him, even when he made mistakes. More than religious routine, what God desires is a heart that truly seeks Him.
