Cameroon has officially launched the second container terminal at the Kribi deep-sea port, tripling its handling capacity to over 1 million TEUs per year. The terminal's modern infrastructure allows the port to accommodate ultra-large vessels, including the world's largest container ship, MSC Turkiye, which docked at Kribi on May 8.
The $400 billion project, financed 75% by Eximbank of China, has enhanced the port's capabilities and positioned Kribi as a major hub in sub-Saharan Africa. The port's third phase, set to begin in 2027-2028, will include mineral and hydrocarbons terminals, supporting Cameroon's energy and mining ambitions.
