Sacrifice (Udhiyah/Qurbani):
A person should not talk about the price of the animal they sacrifice in gatherings or with friends, and should not complain about how expensive it is (nor showoff) because the sacrifice is an act of worship done for the sake of Allah. And Allah hears everything we say.
One should offer the sacrifice with a sincere and happy heart for the sake of Allah سبحانه و تعالى.
Think of it like this: if a guest came to your home and you slaughtered an animal to honor them, but then they heard you talking about how much it cost & praising or blaming this and that etc— how would that make them feel? Now remember: Allah is far greater and more deserving — and He is the One we are sacrificing for.
*Also, with Eid al-Adha approaching, beware, dear brother & sister, of sharing or making jokes, funny pictures, or mocking comments about sacrificial animals.*
Why? Because the sacrifice is a sacred ritual of Islam. Allah says in the Qur’an (interpretation of the meaning): "That [is so]. And whoever honors the symbols of Allah indeed, it is from the piety of the hearts."[Al-Hajj 22:32]
Q: What should be said when slaughtering the sacrificial animal (udhiyah)?
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: When slaughtering, one should say:
بسم الله، الله أكبر اللهم هذا منك ولك، اللهم هذه عني وعن أهل بيتي .
"Bismillah, Allahu Akbar. Allahumma hadha minka wa laka. Allahumma hadhihi ‘anni wa ‘an ahli bayti."
Translation:
"In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, this is from You and for You. O Allah, this is on my behalf and on behalf of the members of my household." (Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (25/55)
