Apple is partnering with brain-computer interface startup Synchron to enable control of its devices—like iPhones and Vision Pro headsets—using neural signals. The technology, aimed at people with disabilities such as ALS, uses Synchron’s Stentrode implant, which reads brain signals and translates them into screen commands. Though still in early stages and slower than typical input methods, this innovation could make Apple products more accessible. Apple plans to release a new standard for brain interface compatibility later this year. Competitor Neuralink, with more advanced implants, is also progressing rapidly. Commercial approvals for such devices are expected by 2030.
