NGUGI WA THIONGO!... MOJUBAAA... 🙏🏿🖤 A literary giant has joined the Ancestors. Prolific a novelist as he was, perhaps his most defining legacy is as a fierce defender of literary investment in Afrikan Languages. A vocation which lead him to discard English as a primary literary medium and write in his native Gikuyu first and foremost... from which he would translate where necessary. His reasoning for this was laid out in his book, "Decolonising the Mind". An excellent read for those interested. Creatively, he is noted for: • Weep Not Child • Matigari ma Njiruungi • The Trail of Dedan Kimathi • Mũrogi wa Kagogo (Wizard of the Crow) And many more May we learn from his virtues & his shortcomings...
