This marks a notable rise from its eighth position in 2014-15. The country's marine exports have expanded to 130 countries, up from 105 a decade ago, highlighting India's growing prominence in the global seafood market . In FY25, India exported 16.85 lakh metric tonnes of marine products, a substantial increase from 10.51 lakh metric tonnes in 2014-15. The export value reached $7.2 billion, up from $5.4 billion in FY15. This growth is attributed to advancements in aquaculture practices, improved cold chain infrastructure, and adherence to international quality standards . Frozen shrimp remains the top exported product, accounting for over 40% of the total quantity and 66.12% of the export value. The United States and China are the primary destinations for these exports . The Indian government's initiatives, such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), have played a crucial role in this growth. These programs focus on enhancing production, improving infrastructure, and promoting sustainable practices in the fisheries sector . India's rise in the global seafood export market not only boosts the economy but also provides employment opportunities, especially in coastal regions. With continued support and development, India aims to further strengthen its position in the global marine products industry.
