A mussel farming project started to help low-income families in Kodungallur has shown impressive success. The initiative, led by ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), supported local people by giving them training and resources to start mussel farming.
At harvest time, the group proudly collected a huge yield of 1.7 tonnes of mussels โ proving that the sea can be a powerful tool for livelihood development.
This project is especially important for marginalised communities, helping them earn income and learn new skills. CMFRI provided technical support and guidance throughout the process, making sure the farmers were well-prepared.
Thanks to this success, more families in the region are now interested in coastal aquaculture and small-scale mussel farming, which could turn into a major source of income in the coming years.
