The ICARโCentral Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) is all set to take part in the national campaign โViksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyanโ, launched by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in partnership with ICAR.
This massive farmer outreach programme will run from May 29 to June 12 across India. The main goal is to connect farmers with scientists and promote the use of modern technologies, sustainable farming, and entrepreneurship.
Speaking about the campaign, Dr. George Ninan, Director of ICARโCIFT, said that 47 scientists from CIFT will reach over 1,008 villages across 14 districts in Kerala, directly benefiting nearly 2.25 lakh farmers. These scientists will hold awareness drives, practical demonstrations, and personal interactions with farmers.
Across India, the campaign will cover over 700 districts, involving:
731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs)
113 ICAR Research Institutes
State Agricultural Universities
Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs)
Innovative farmers
What Farmers Will Learn:
New technologies in fisheries and farming
Use of drones and ICT tools
Natural and sustainable farming
Crop diversification and entrepreneurship
Fish processing, value addition, and government support schemes
Multidisciplinary teams from agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries will provide custom advice for each area. CIFT will focus on on-field training, promoting entrepreneurship in fish processing, and boosting farm income.
This campaign is seen as a major step to bridge the gap between lab and land, ensuring that scientific research reaches farmersโ fields. Farmers will also help shape the future of agricultural innovation by sharing their experiences and feedback.
