Still using Soframycin for every wound, pimple, or rash?
Soframycin (Framycetin) is related to neomycin, a well-known contact allergen. Allergy rates for neomycin range from 5–15%.
Overuse of soframycin on every wound or cut also leads to resistant bacteria. Result? The cream stops working when you actually need it.
Better alternatives to soframycin (based on wound type):
Minor cuts & scrapes: Petroleum jelly (Vaseline)
• Keeps it moist
• Heals faster
• No antibiotics, no allergy risk
Small burns: Aloe vera gel or silver cream (if prescribed)
• Soothes skin
• Helps prevent infection
Healing acne marks or minor scars:
Silicone gel or scar sheets
Niacinamide gel
• Fades marks
• Prevents dark scars
Fungal rashes: an antigungal cream (like clotrimazole). Better to get a prescription treatment for fungal infections.
Post-surgical wounds (once clean): Petroleum jelly + clean dressing silicone scar sheet
Rule of thumb:
Don’t use antibiotics unless there’s clear infection.
