*LEOPARD VET SERVICES* ✍️ PHIMOSIS_IN_DOGS It's a condition characterized by the inability to retract the prepuce (foreskin) covering the penis. It's occurs when the opening of the prepuce becomes narrow or constricted, making it difficult or impossible for the dog to expose the glans penis. ✍️ ETIOLOGY Caused by various factors : ✓ Genetics ✓ Trauma ✓ Infections ✓ Inflammation ✓ Tumors. ✍️ SUSCEPTIBLE_BREEDS Breed Like Bulldogs & Boston, Terriers, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever are more prone to this; due to their anatomy and genetics. ✍️ CLINICAL_SIGNS 👉 Difficulty or inability to retract the penis fully. 👉 Swelling or redness of the prepuce. 👉 Discharge or accumulation of smegma (a waxy substance) under the foreskin. 👉 Pain or discomfort during urination or mating. 👉 Licking or chewing at the genital area. ✍️ DIAGNOSIS 👉 Physical examination (prepuce and penis) 👉 Medical history 👉 Other laboratory tests(CBC,Urinalysis) 👉 Ultrasonography͟. ✍️ TREATMENT It varies; depending on the severity of the condition and the symptoms 👉 Gentle Stretching Exercises: For mild cases of phimosis. 👉 Topical Steroid Cream: Applying a betamethasone, to the tight area of the foreskin to reduce inflammation & promote stretching. 👉 Manual Stretching by a Healthcare Professional 👉 Preputioplasty: is a surgical procedure in making small incisions in the foreskin to relieve tightness 👉 Circumcision 🤣: is the surgical removal of the foreskin.
