#organandtissuedonation - The Department of Health will on Saturday, 31 May launch a campaign to encourage individuals and families to embrace the gift of life through organ and tissue donation in order to save lives, improve the quality of life for individuals with organ failure, and bring healing to others.
It is estimated we have about three thousand (3000) people on the waiting list to receive either organ or tissue donation in South Africa, while some of the people pass away while waiting to receive these life-saving gifts of life. These figures might be underreported.
Organ and tissue donation form part of the healthcare services offered in South Africa, both in the state and private sector.
However, lack of information about donation is impacting people’s willingness to donate. It is for this reason that the Department in collaboration with various stakeholders in the sector including Organ Donor Foundation, SA Transplant Society, SA Tissue Bank Association and National Kidney Foundation will launch a campaign to intensify awareness on the significance of organ and tissue donation in saving and improving the quality of life South Africans.
Details of Organ and Tissues Donation Campaign Launch are as follows:
Date: Saturday, 31 May 2025
