Residents in Trans Nzoia staged a mass walkout during Madaraka Day celebrations on Sunday, just as President Ruto’s speech was about to be read, leaving officials stunned at the Lessos Primary School grounds.
The incident occurred amid rising local discontent and the conspicuous absence of Governor George Natembeya from the main national event held at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, which he skipped, citing ongoing graft allegations against him.
His absence, along with his public criticism of the national government, appears to have fueled the dissatisfaction that culminated in the walkout, leaving only a handful of local officials and NGAO members in attendance.
