POSTING SHORTS WILL HARM YOUR CHANNEL
Listen 👂.
Posting shorts UN-STRATEGICALLY will harm your YouTube channel.
Here's Why.
People who love to watch shorts have "SHORT ATTENTION SPANS". These sets of people are typically Gen Z (TikTok generation). They don’t enjoy watching videos longer than 1 minute.
Now, let’s assume you posted a short video (capped at 1-minute duration) on your channel, and the video blew up—you gained 10k subs from that short. Yeh!!! Congratulations.
But guess what? Your channel IS DOOMED!!!
WHY?
Because if you post any long-form video (example: 8–10 minutes), your shorts-subscribers aren’t gonna watch it. Lol. Why? Because it’s not what they subscribed for.
Of course, they subscribed for shorts, so you’ll have to keep making shorts for them. Hahahaha.
Does shorts pay well? Nope. They pay peanuts 🥜.
Where is the money?
In LONG-FORM VIDEOS.
That’s why advertisers pay heavily to display ads for their products and services there. And that’s where you, as a content creator or YouTuber, should focus.
🟥Posting only shorts will RUIN your channel. ❌
🟩Posting only long-form videos won’t ruin your channel. ✅
🟦Posting both shorts and long-form videos? Well, if you do it STRATEGICALLY, you won’t ruin your channel.
How?
This Is How To Post Long-form And Short Videos Without Messing Up Your Channel.
✅ Make Sure Your Long-form & Short-form Videos Are Related.
When you make long-form videos, make sure your shorts are also related to your long-form video.
The reason?
To avoid having two different attention-span audiences as subscribers.
For example:
If you make a long-form video on “Why Messi is the G.O.A.T.” (10-minute video)…
You can either:
Make a new short video on “Why Messi is the G.O.A.T.” (1-minute version)
OR
Cut out a 1-minute segment from your long-form video and post it as a short.
Now this brings us to the next ACTION:
✅ Link Your Related Short Videos to Your Long-Form Videos.
After creating both long-form and short-form videos which are related to each other…
The next thing is to link your short-form video to your long-form video using YouTube’s video linking feature (as seen in the screenshot attached to Next post).
That is:
After uploading your long-form video, when it’s time to upload the related short-form video, link the long-form video to the short.
That way, short lovers can watch your shorts, and since they already love the short, they’ll be TEMPTED to click through the link and watch the long-form video (through the short).
This is the best way to STRATEGICALLY post both long-form & short-form videos on your channel without building two different subscriber bases with different attention spans.
Takeaway:
The main goal is to ensure your long-form videos always relate to your short-form videos, to avoid having two different types of audiences.
Then, don’t forget to link your shorts to your related long-form video as well.
I hope this helps someone today?
