Breaking News PNG : North Fly MP James Donald has raised concerns over a recent directive instructing all districts and provincial governments to allocate K1 million from their Service Improvement Program (SIP) funds towards Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations in 2025.
According to MP Donald, the Department of Finance has issued a Financial Instruction requiring all 96 districts and 22 provinces to contribute K1 million each from their District and Provincial SIP allocations. This would amount to a total of K118 million nationwide. However, he questioned the legality and economic rationale of this decision, noting that he could not recall any vote item for the anniversary celebrations in the 2025 national budget appropriation bill.
