HARARE – The Zimbabwean government has urged 47 students awarded scholarships to study in India to maximize the opportunity and acquire skills that will contribute to the country’s socio-economic growth.
During a farewell ceremony in Harare, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerai Moyo, emphasized the importance of education in shaping the nation’s future.
“By investing in education, we are not just changing individual lives, but shaping the future of our nation.
"Together, we can build a society where talent and determination determine one’s success, not circumstances of birth,” he said.
The scholarship recipients will enroll in various Indian universities, pursuing degrees in fields such as medicine, law, and information and communication technology.
The initiative aligns with Zimbabwe’s commitment to investing in human capital as a pillar of national progress.
Dr. Emmanuel Silas Mahachi, Principal Officer of Career Guidance International, commended the government for fostering partnerships that enable the private sector to support higher education access.
“This is the fourth year since we started this programme, and we are pleased that we are able to assist academically gifted children from underprivileged backgrounds to pursue their studies,” he said.
According to ZBC, the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the opportunity, promising to work hard and return home with skills that will positively impact their communities.
Parents and guardians also voiced optimism, stressing the importance of education in securing a brighter future.
The Zimbabwean government reaffirmed its dedication to education as a key driver of economic transformation, reinforcing its commitment to achieving Vision 2030 through strategic investments in learning and innovation.
