ZPCS Warns Officers Against Corruption and Substance Abuse
The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has issued a strong warning to its officers, cautioning them against engaging in corruption and drug or substance abuse. The organisation has vowed that those found guilty of such offences will face serious consequences.
The warning was delivered by ZPCS Commissioner General, Dr. Moses Chihobvu, during a graduation ceremony for 615 recruits at the Ntabazinduna Training School.
Dr. Chihobvu stressed that the ZPCS holds its members to high standards of moral and professional integrity, and anyone who falls short will be held accountable.
“Let me take this opportunity to address two critical threats to the integrity of our organisation: substance abuse and corruption. I want to make it abundantly clear that these have no place in the ZPCS,” he declared.
Describing corruption as a “cancerous threat,” the Commissioner General said it must be eradicated completely from the institution. He explained that the misuse of drugs and alcohol not only endangers an officer’s personal health but also compromises operational safety and erodes the public’s trust in the service.
“Corruption—whether through the misappropriation of stores, trafficking of contraband, or abuse of authority—strikes at the very heart of our mission,” he said.
Dr. Chihobvu made it clear that any officer found engaging in such misconduct would face swift and decisive disciplinary and legal action.
