At WelcomeFest, centrist Democrats said they want the party “on the right side of public opinion.” But from pushing deregulation and clashing with unions to taking more conservative stances on immigration and trans rights, their agenda often conflicts with what Democratic voters actually support.
"It seems more sales tactics to me than a commitment to actually tracking and representing the average person," said public opinion researcher G. Elliott Morris. "They just have a commitment to these values first and a commitment to the public second."
