*New Drive to Boost Transparency and Public Engagement in Mining Sector* 📍_Shinyanga, June 5, 2025_ In a decisive move to enhance transparency and communication in Tanzania’s extractive industry, the Mining Commission has unveiled its new Communication Strategy at the Tabora Resident Mines Office. The launch marks a key effort by the Commission to strengthen ties with stakeholders, improve information flow, and build public trust in the country’s mineral sector. The event was officiated by Shinyanga Resident Mines Officer, Geologist Daniel Mapunda, who emphasized the importance of clear and consistent messaging in a sector that plays a critical role in the nation’s economy. “The Communication Strategy is a vital tool that will enable the Commission to inform the public more effectively, promote opportunities within the mining sector, and encourage broader participation of Tanzanians in mining activities,” Mapunda said. The strategy outlines five key areas of focus: • Public outreach • Media engagement • Internal communication • Crisis management • Stakeholder coordination In addition to unveiling the strategy, the event included a briefing on the upcoming Brand Manual — a document set to standardize the Commission’s visual and editorial identity across platforms. Officials say both the Communication Strategy and the Brand Manual are part of a broader effort to align the Commission’s operations with principles of transparency, inclusiveness, and sustainability. The new approach also reflects the government’s commitment to promoting responsible mining practices and increasing Tanzanian participation in mineral value chains. The initiative comes at a time when the mineral sector continues to attract both local and international attention, with increased emphasis on value addition, environmental stewardship, and community development. As implementation begins, stakeholders across the sector — from miners and investors to local communities — are expected to benefit from clearer communication, better access to information, and stronger institutional coordination.
