Journalists Urged to Adapt to Technology While Upholding Ethical Standards At the Media Council of Kenya’s Annual Media Summit, Dr. Grace Githaiga, CEO of KICTANet, emphasised that journalists must embrace technology-such as AI and digital newsrooms-while maintaining the highest ethical standards to preserve public trust. Dr. Githaiga highlighted both the opportunities and challenges technology brings: ➡️ AI and digital tools can amplify new voices and increase newsroom efficiency. ➡️ Risks include digital surveillance, cyber harassment, and the spread of misinformation. “Trust is the backbone of journalism, but it’s fragile in this era of echo chambers,” she noted, calling for stronger editorial standards, fact-checking, and digital literacy. Panellists - James Wamathai (Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE), Young Muthomi (Royal Media Services Limited), Francis Mureithi (Radio Africa Group) Jacinta kiraguri (Standard Group PLC), Harry Misiko (Nation Media Group) and Rosemary Mwangi, Communications Authority of Kenya echoed the need for upskilling, ethical AI use, and regulatory innovation to keep pace with technological change. Journalists who adapt and innovate-while upholding integrity-will remain essential in informing and uniting the public. https://www.kictanet.or.ke/journalists-urged-to-adapt-to-technology-while-upholding-ethical-standards/
