🌍 The 12th East Africa Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF) kicked off today in Nairobi, hosted by KICTANet, uniting stakeholders from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and the DRC to shape the region’s digital future. Under the theme “Advancing East Africa’s Digital Future,” the forum is driving discussions on inclusive digital governance, cybersecurity, and AI policy. Lillian Nalwoga, emphasised the EAIGF’s growth: “We anticipate representation from Ethiopia and Somalia soon, further strengthening our regional network.” Robert Ford from Rwanda proposed a regional Child Online Protection initiative, stating, “We could form an EAIGF initiative to advance child online protection for the entire region.” From Uganda’s Parliamentary IGF launch to the DRC’s parliamentary engagement, national IGFs are influencing digital policies across East Africa.
