GENERAL GUIDE ON RESPONDING TO GEOGRAPHY 4022 QUESTIONS In paper 2, candidates are expected to answer in essay form/continuous prose. Answers given in this booklet are just guidelines. Paper 2 has 12 questions and three sections. Candidates are expected to answer four questions, one (1) from each section and the fourth one from any one of the three sections. Although candidates are not penalised for wrong grammar, they are encouraged to express themselves clearly so that they bring out the point and earn marks. Therefore, the use of good English has an added advantage. In situations where candidates are asked to describe or explain what is shown on diagrams and maps, they are encouraged to refer to the diagrams and maps instead of giving general descriptions or explanations. When candidates give more responses than the marks allocated, credit is given to the maximum of the given number of marks allocated. In situations where candidates are asked to draw diagrams and maps, marks are usually given for shape and correct labels. Well annotated diagrams/maps can earn full marks. Candidates are encouraged to budget their time wisely i.e. not more than 45 minutes per question. Candidates can use diagrams and maps to illustrate their answers even if the question does not ask them to do so. Candidates are encouraged to write legibly since what the examiner cannot see/read becomes incorrect. Correct numbering is encouraged. Candidates are encouraged to follow examination instructions i.e answering only 4 questions. Answering more than 4 questions will result in the candidate losing marks. The number of marks is given in brackets [ ] at the end of each question or part question. The marks allocated offer a general guide on the number of points expected. Candidates are encouraged to begin a new question on a fresh page. The answers should be well arranged and in the correct sequence eg 3(a)(i), (ii), (iii), 3(b)(i), (ii) then 3(c). Avoid unnecessary repetition. It leads to loss of time. Candidates are encouraged to use correct scale when illustrating using graphs.
