*Give Due Honour* _By Archbishop Charles Agyinasare_ _Day 154 (03/06/2025)_ > _Romans 13:7 “Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honour, then honour”_ Honour is the celebration and rewarding of uniqueness, excellence and usefulness. Dishonour, on the other hand, is the trivializing of value and excellence. Neglecting to honour those to whom honour is due can cause you spiritual problems because honour is a seed for open doors. Dishonouring people can cause stagnation and retrogression in life. It is important to note that honour is not a gift, but a choice made by discerning people. Here are three persons we must accord honour: *1.⁠ ⁠God.* 1 Samuel 2:30 (NIV) “Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: …Those who honour me I will honour, but those who despise me will be disdained.” The sons of Eli shamelessly defiled and despised the altar of God with their sins, and Eli, their father, failed to correct them, and so God also took from them the honour of the priesthood. We must honour God by having reverence for the things of God and by obeying His word. *2.⁠ ⁠Parents.* Deuteronomy 5:16 (NIV) “Honour your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you” Honouring parents is the first commandment with a promise. Parents must be honoured by obeying them in the Lord, blessing them with good things and generally giving them the respect due them. *3.⁠ ⁠Spouses.* 1 Peter 3:7 “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.” Peter admonished husbands to honour their wives as he had instructed wives to honour their husbands through respect and submission. Thus, the reciprocal giving of honour by husband and wife releases the favour of God and quick answers to prayer in the home. *Precious one, let us remember to honour God, our parents, both biological and spiritual, our spouses and all in authority.* *Prayer:* _Heavenly Father, I receive grace and wisdom to sincerely honour You and those to whom it is due, in Jesus’ name.
