Tucked away in Maharashtra’s heartland, the Ruins of Mansar are a forgotten masterpiece of ancient India.
Once the glorious capital of the Vakataka King Pravarasena II in the 5th century, Mansar was known as Pravarapura — a city of temples, palaces, and spiritual sanctuaries. Excavations by the Archaeological Survey of India have revealed over 2,700 artefacts, a Buddhist monastery, a box stupa, Hindu sculptures, and the remains of an opulent palace complex.
Today, the site tells its story through scattered ruins, majestic stone carvings, and a massive pyramidal brick stupa. Walk through the temple ruins, spot intricate carvings lost to time, and watch the once thriving city 1,600 years ago. It’s surreal.
