Lab Technical Expert – Molecular Genomics
Location: Selangor, Malaysia

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lab Technical Expert in Molecular Genomics to assist our existing team in supporting and expanding the capabilities of our ISO17025-accredited commercial testing laboratory. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) using Illumina platforms, as well as microarray technologies, and possess a solid understanding of laboratory quality systems and molecular testing workflows.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform and support routine molecular analyses to ensure timely and high-quality test results.
· Develop and validate new biotechnology testing services for commercial applications.
· Apply and optimize NGS (Illumina) and microarray techniques for various testing needs.
· Maintain and troubleshoot advanced laboratory instruments and platforms.
· Review and update technical documents and SOPs in compliance with ISO17025 standards.
· Provide training and maintain competency records for the Biotech Team on certain areas of expertise.
· Contribute to technical marketing efforts such as webinars and technical materials.
· Assist in managing costing, budgeting, and procurement of laboratory supplies.
· Work with laboratory managers and analysts to resolve complex testing challenges.
Qualifications
· MSc or PhD in Molecular Biology, Genomics, Biotechnology, or a related field. A PhD is preferred.
· Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in a molecular diagnostics or genomics laboratory.
· Proficiency in NGS using Illumina platforms, microarray technologies, and strong capabilities in PCR and ELISA assay development and troubleshooting.
· Familiarity with ISO17025 quality management systems.
· Experience in method development, validation, and troubleshooting.
· Strong communication and organisational skills.
Preferred Attributes
· Experience in a commercial or clinical testing environment.
· Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and data interpretation.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
· Preferred NGS work experience includes microbial identification, whole genome sequencing (WGS), environmental DNA (eDNA), and other relevant applications.
