🔴12-Year-Old Boy Released After Fatal Brakpan Crash, Faces Culpable Homicide Charges🔴
A 12-year-old boy, released into his parents’ custody, appeared in the Brakpan Magistrates Court on Monday, facing charges of culpable homicide and driving without a licence after a tragic car crash that killed a 14-year-old boy. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at the corner of Madeley and Northdeene streets in Brakpan, just 800 metres from the young driver’s home. The minor allegedly took his parents’ Mazda without permission, ran a stop sign, struck the teenage pedestrian, and crashed into a wall. The victim, Malcolm Booysens, was declared dead at the scene. The National Prosecuting Authority’s Lumka Mahanjana confirmed the case has been postponed to 28 August 2025 to assess the boy’s criminal capacity, sparking renewed debate about parental responsibility and child road safety in South Africa, where over 600 children died in road accidents last year.
