The Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB) has accused US inspectors of bypassing standard protocols, leading to the rejection of 15 Indian mango consignments, totaling 25 metric tonnes, worth $500,000. The issue stems from alleged procedural lapses at the Mumbai irradiation facility, where US inspectors reportedly failed to notify officials before reporting issues, resulting in the rejection of mangoes irradiated on May 8-9. The MSAMB claims that proper communication could have prevented these losses. Exporters refute claims of incomplete irradiation, noting that the mandatory PPQ203 form was issued, confirming treatment completion. Despite the setback, mango exports have normalized, with 185.75 metric tonnes shipped to the US between May 11-18, including varieties like Alphonso, Kesar, and Dasheri. India’s mango exports to the US surged 130% to $10 million in FY24, facilitated by a Cooperative Service Agreement between APEDA and USDA-APHIS. The incident highlights the need for stricter adherence to protocols to avoid future disruptions in the lucrative US mango market. #mangorow #indiaus #mangoexports #msamb #usda #irradiation #apeda #mangotrade #agriculture #exportissues #maharashtra #tradedispute
