*D) Slow down, ask a clarifying question, and commit to following up.*
When you’re tired or pressed for time, it’s tempting to respond quickly and move on—but hasty listening can backfire. People may feel dismissed or frustrated, and you risk missing what they’re really trying to tell you.
Instead, slow down. Even if you can’t fully address the issue on the spot, show that you’re engaged:
- Ask a clarifying question to show you’re listening.
- Acknowledge the concern (“That’s an important question”).
- Commit to following up with more information.
This small shift helps your team feel heard—and helps you lead with empathy, not just efficiency.
