HE President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will today officially open the Trabablas Interchange — a massive, multi-level project previously known as the Mbudzi Roundabout — with thousands in attendance and the eyes of a continent fixed on the Great Republic of Zimbabwe. "This is no ordinary road project. It is a bold declaration that the Great Republic of Zimbabwe is not waiting for the future to arrive — we are building it with our own hands," President Mnangagwa is expected to say in his remarks. "We stood our ground against attacks and slander, and today I officially declare this interchange opened — for the people, by the people." The Trabablas Interchange has swiftly risen to outclass older regional giants such as the Pokuase Interchange in Accra, Ghana, and Durban’s EB Cloete “Spaghetti Junction” in South Africa. While those were hailed in their day, the Trabablas Interchange boasts more ambitious structural integrity, a faster completion timeline, and most importantly, a political willpower that withstood a barrage of disruptive criticism. “This interchange is not just concrete and steel. It is the signature of National Vision, persistence, and a love for the Great Republic of Zimbabwe that cannot be shaken,” the President is also expected to say. “Let those who mocked us now drive through this place and know — we build. We do not destroy.” Constructed by the Tefoma consortium — combining Tensor Systems, Fossil Contracting, and Masimba Construction — the USD88-90 million project broke ground in 2022 and has been completed just one day ahead of schedule. With 15 bridges, numerous offramps and onramps, and a modern traffic management system, the Trabablas Interchange not only replaces a chaotic roundabout but redefines the potential of African infrastructural ambition. “Our critics tried every angle. But Vision is not built on convenience,” the President is likely to reflect. “It is built on courage. And this interchange — the Trabablas Interchange — is courage cast in stone.” Beyond political symbolism, the interchange has real-world implications. It opens a clear artery to the Harare-Beitbridge Highway — a corridor vital for trade and mobility in the SADC Region. Daily commutes that once took over an hour have now been slashed to minutes. Long-distance truckers bound for South Africa are finding relief in the seamless navigation and secure transit, while local businesses cheer the boost to supply chains and logistics. “This project represents what we mean when we say Vision 2030 is not a slogan. It is action. It is deliverables. And it is results,” President Mnangagwa is anticipated to conclude. “Zimbabwe is moving forward. And the road begins right here.” From the Provincial corridors of governance, Hon Advocate Misheck ‘Pakuru’ Mugadza, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution and MP for Mutasa South in Manicaland , praised the development. “What His Excellency has done here is a new standard for every Province,” said Hon Pakuru Mugadza. “This interchange is a structure of order in a world that once saw only traffic and chaos.” “Manicaland has seen firsthand what it means to have committed Leadership at National level,” he added. “We are proud that the Great Republic of Zimbabwe is being led by someone who does not just speak — but builds.” Cde Tawanda ‘Gomoguru’ Mukodza, the ZANU PF Chairperson for Manicaland, reinforced the political momentum. “This is the infrastructure revolution we speak about at our rallies,” he noted. “While others throw stones, President Mnangagwa lays bricks.” “Trabablas is not just the name of an interchange. It is a code for resilience. For delivery. For the unstoppable machinery of the Second Republic,” said Cde Gomoguru Mukodza. Meanwhile, the Hon Minister of Women Affairs, Small to Medium Enterprises Development, Hon Monica Mutsvangwa, highlighted how this development transforms the landscape for women entrepreneurs. “The Trabablas Interchange will greatly reduce delays for our cross-border traders,” she said. “Women no longer have to waste valuable hours in traffic — that time is now reclaimed for production, for profit, and for family.” “Mobility is dignity. And this project affirms that women are a vital engine in the Great Republic of Zimbabwe’s economic journey,” she added. Deputy Minister of Transport and MP for Chimanimani East, Hon Joshua Kurtis Sacco, also weighed in from a transport and regional planning angle: “What we have here is an architectural marvel with a National mission. This is the bar we now use to measure road development across Provinces.” He continued, “In Chimanimani and across Manicaland, we are inspired to match this excellence. The Trabablas Interchange sends a clear signal: the Great Republic of Zimbabwe is now building to world-class specification.” From the youth front, Boys dzaMdara National Chairperson Mr Hopewell Chako saluted the President’s foresight. “This interchange is more than infrastructure — it is inspiration. It tells every Zimbabwean child that they are not locked out of greatness.” Later this afternoon, Mr Chako will drive from the new Trabablas Interchange to Nyanga for the Boys dzaMdara Annual National Conference being held at the Village Inn Hotel in Hon Supa Mandiwanzira’s Nyanga (is Supa) South Constituency. “Our movement gathers this weekend with pride — knowing that under HE President Mnangagwa, we are no longer begging for progress. We are owning it,” Chako declared. Though the construction had its difficulties — including unfortunate accidents and disputes seized on by opposition elements — the final product stands unshaken. All displaced families were compensated and relocated. All detour plans were properly mapped and executed. As of today, Harare’s nightmare traffic junction is history. Rumours abound that the Second Republic has set its eyes on four more major interchanges in Harare, which if completed, would establish the capital city as one of the best-planned urban centres in Southern Africa. With cranes gone and traffic flowing, what remains at the Trabablas Interchange is the sound of National pride rolling on rubber tires. And the memory of a President who, despite every hindrance, declared — this road shall be built.
