◼️ *US warns about violent crime, kidnappings, and terrorist attacks in SA:* The level 2 travel alert informed Americans to exercise increased caution in South Africa due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and kidnapping. “Violent crime is common and includes robbery, rape, carjacking and mugging. There are also “smash-and-grab” attacks on vehicles,” it said.

◼️ *‘Health failing to shield kids from HIV’:* The study further revealed that 157 000 children were living with HIV, while one out of three were not on treatment. Treatment Action Campaign spokesperson Xabisa Qwabe said: “This is unacceptable in a country with one of the largest HIV treatment programmes in the world.”

◼️ *Construction mafias hit major project:* A nearly R550 million construction project to rehabilitate the Golden Highway in Gauteng has been halted following threats from construction mafias. The company that received the R548,612,770 tender in early 2025 reported that its workers have been shot at and assaulted.

◼️ *Tenders to politically connected people not a problem:* The Auditor-General reported that the City of Johannesburg awarded almost R1 billion in questionable family-linked tenders. However, city spokesperson Nthatisi Modingoane confirmed that the metro government sees no issue and will not conduct an investigation.

◼️ *'My wife said I must apologise':* Presiding judge in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Ratha Mokgoatlheng on Monday apologised following his court outburst where he made several remarks with racial undertones last week. "This is what happens in a South Africa run by blacks. I can tell you now, even if you call Uncle Tom, I don’t think a white advocate will ever have the gall to ask me that. Never," said Mokgoatlheng.
