Why do we give Salawat to the prophet? Allah said in the holy Quran: إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ۚ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا “Allah s.w.t and His angels send Selawat on the Prophet s.a.w: O you who believe! Send your Selawat upon him and salute him with all respect” (Surah Al Ahzab, 33:56) Allah told us to send prayers and blessings upon the prophet. We understand from this verse that Allah and all the angels send prayers and blessings to the prophet and we should do the same. Sending Salawat and blessings only once rewards us with ten blessings from Allah. It was also mentioned in a hadith that sending Salawat to the prophet raises the person ten degrees, rewarded with good 10 deeds, and 10 of his bad deeds are erased.
