*Public Interest Alert – Kenya Added to EU High-Risk Financial Jurisdictions List*
The European Commission has updated its list of high-risk jurisdictions for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CFT). Kenya is among the 10 new countries added to the list due to identified strategic deficiencies in its AML/CFT frameworks.
Other countries added include: Algeria, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Laos, Lebanon, Monaco, Namibia, Nepal, and Venezuela.
At the same time, the EU has delisted 8 countries, including Uganda, UAE, Panama, and the Philippines.
*General Advisory:*
Businesses and financial institutions with ties to the EU market should prepare for enhanced due diligence measures on transactions involving Kenya.
Expect delays, increased scrutiny, or limitations in cross-border financial operations, especially for banking, real estate, and high-value imports/exports.
Organizations should review internal AML compliance frameworks to mitigate exposure to risk flags in international transactions.
