The Free State Department of Education partnered with Hendrick Potgieter Agricultural School to offer grade 10- 12 learners an opportunity to earn SAQA- Accredited courses in Sheep Handling, Animal Health and Good Management. This is part of the departments vision of multi-certification that allows learners to leave the basic education sector better prepared to join institutions of higher learner and the labour market. Shearing cannot be automated, a trained indivual has to do it which makes it a prized skill! Currently South Africa holds the World Championship title for shearing and supplies some of the best quality wool to the world.
