🌪️ WORKPLACE INTEGRITY CHECK: When Group Dynamics Undermine Ethics.
One of the most difficult yet necessary leadership lessons is navigating TOXIC GROUPTHINK especially when group loyalty overrides fairness.
WE’VE ALL SEEN IT:
👉 A clique forms.
👉 They point fingers at one person relentlessly.
👉 They expect “the one they dislike” to be held to account.
👉 But when one of their own is confronted with wrongdoing, they throw tantrums, spin narratives, or suddenly preach forgiveness.
This is not accountability. It’s SELECTIVE OUTRAGE.
Let’s define these people:
🔹 DESCRIBING THESE PEOPLE:
🌺CLIQUES / GROUPIES – Tight-knit groups that often protect their own while excluding or targeting others.
🌺OFFICE BULLIES in packs – They may not be individually aggressive but gain power in numbers.
🌺SELECTIVE MORALISTS – People who demand accountability for others but excuse wrongdoing when it’s “one of their own.”
🌺HYPOCRITICAL ENFORCERS – Those who pretend to value ethics or performance, but only apply those standards to people they dislike.
🌺MOB-MINDED COLLEAGUES-– When groupthink leads to unfair targeting or emotional manipulation.
🔹 DESCRIBING THE BEHAVIOUR:
🌺DOUBLE STANDARDS – Expecting one person to be punished while defending others for the same or worse behavior.
🌺SCAPEGOATING – Placing blame on one individual to deflect attention from the group’s own faults.
🌺EMOTIONAL MANIPULATION/ TANTRUMS – Using performative outrage when their ally is criticized, but staying silent or cheering when others are attacked.
🌺TOXIC LOYALTY – Valuing loyalty to the group over truth or fairness.
🌺WEAPONISED VICTIMHOOD – Acting oppressed or wronged to avoid accountability.
As leaders, we must call this out gracefully but firmly. Integrity demands consistency, not popularity. It’s easy to discipline those we dislike. The real test is whether we can hold our own to the same standard when it’s inconvenient.
🌺Fairness should not be up for negotiation.
🌺Truth should not depend on the size of your support group.
🌺And leadership must never be swayed by office groupies with loud opinions and quiet principles.
🔍 Let’s lead with courage, consistency, and character, NOT CLIQUES.
