✨️✨️✨️DISEASES THAT MOSTLY AFFECTS HOLSTEIN FRIESIAN CATTLES ✨️✨️✨️
Holstein Friesian cattle, known for their high milk production, are particularly susceptible to several diseases due to their genetics and intensive dairy use. A specific disease that disproportionately affects this breed is:

👉Bovine Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency (BLAD)
👉OVERVIEW:
👉Cause: Genetic disorder due to a mutation in the gene coding for CD18 (an adhesion molecule).
✅️Breed affected: Primarily Holstein Friesians.
✅️Inheritance: Autosomal recessive — both parents must be carriers.
👉SYMPTOMS:
✅️Poor wound healing
✅️Recurrent bacterial infections (especially in the skin, respiratory tract, and joints)
✅️Slow growth and early death (often within the first year)
✅️Leukocytosis (high white blood cell count) but impaired immune response
👉DIAGNOSIS:
✅️Genetic testing of breeding animals (to detect carriers)
✅️Clinical signs and bloodwork in affected calves
👉CONTROL:
✅️Genetic screening of breeding stock
✅️Avoid breeding two carriers
✅️Use of artificial insemination from BLAD-free sires
👉OTHER COMMON DISEASES IN HOLSTEINS (THOUGH NOT BREED-SPECIFIC):
✅️Mastitis – due to high milk yield
✅️Ketosis – metabolic disorder in high-producing cows
✅️Milk Fever (Hypocalcemia) – especially in older dairy cows
✅️Displaced Abomasum – due to deep-bodied structure and high-concentrate diets
