The Debate: Should Choristers Be Paid? Let’s be honest — this debate isn't really about the money. It’s boiled down to each individual’s habit, character, and understanding of purpose. Let’s also be clear: Only Jesus Christ lived a perfect life. From the greatest saints of the past to the anointed ones yet unborn — all have sinned. Now, back to choristers... Many are just following the crowd, but few truly stand out. And when we see those few shining, we copy their style and swagger — without ever seeking the Holy Spirit to reveal our actual calling. Truth is: No man is doing the work of God perfectly. But because of Jesus' mercy, even our broken offerings still look beautiful in Heaven’s eyes. “Singing is a Gift. And gifts, when done wholeheartedly, are always rewarded.” But here's the key: You don’t reward yourself. You don’t set the price. That’s where 95% of choristers get it twisted. They see the 5% being celebrated — and assume the celebration came from talent alone. What they miss? The sacrifice, the secret obedience, the late-night rehearsals, the tears in private, and most importantly — the purity of heart. Let’s be real: If you set your price before your ministration — You’ve already traded your spiritual reward for a transactional gig. If you expect something from the organizer more than from God — You’ve already shifted your gaze from the throne to the pews. Psalm 72:1 says: “Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son.” Meaning? Let God be the one who decides your reward. Freely you have received; freely give.” – Matthew 10:8 When you’re invited to render your gift, remember: You woke up because God allowed it. So what earthly price could ever outweigh your divine calling? Choristers, Hear This: Nothing should take God from your mind. Not popularity. Not recognition. Not even money. You say you're singing for God? Then don’t demand payment like you're singing for man. Serve with excellence. Sing with power. Let the Holy Spirit validate your ministry — not your invoice.
