The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation across key areas including mineral value addition, clean energy, industrialisation, ICT and artificial intelligence, and advanced geological technologies. Discussions also included enhancing export-oriented agricultural SMEs and strategies for value addition in the sector. This visit is being viewed as a significant diplomatic step forward, given the strained relations between the two countries following Zimbabweโ€™s fast-track land reform programme in the early 2000s. Since assuming office in 2017, President Mnangagwa has pursued a policy of Engagement and Re-engagement, aimed at normalising relations with global partners. โ€œIt has been a real pleasure to meet His Excellency this morning and to be here in Zimbabwe,โ€ said Lord Collins. โ€œWe are absolutely committed to building a partnership based on equality and respect, with a simple missionโ€”a mission for economic growth that can support both of our peoples.โ€ Both sides expressed commitment to forging a modern, mutually beneficial partnership grounded in mutual respect and shared prosperity. They explored opportunities for technology transfer and collaboration in climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable development. Analysts say the visit carries both symbolic and practical significance. As the UKโ€™s Minister for Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America, Lord Collinsโ€™ decision to visit Zimbabweโ€”and to mark King Charles IIIโ€™s 75th birthday while hereโ€”demonstrates renewed UK interest in engaging Zimbabwe diplomatically and economically. With the possibility of expanded trade, investment, and collaboration in line with Zimbabweโ€™s Vision 2030, the visit sets the tone for a recalibrated and forward-looking Zimbabwe-UK relationship. -The Zimbabwe Mail
