*Hyundai Localises Over 1,200 Parts and EV Battery Packs in India to Strengthen Supply Chain* In a strategic push toward deeper integration with the Indian manufacturing ecosystem, Hyundai Motor India has successfully localised over 1,200 auto components, including critical electric vehicle (EV) battery packs, across its domestic supply chain. The move marks a significant step in Hyundai’s long-term commitment to Make in India, cost optimization, and supply chain resilience. The company, which has been ramping up its efforts to support India's EV transition, confirmed that the localisation strategy includes a mix of powertrain components, body parts, electronics modules, and thermal systems. Notably, the localisation of battery pack assemblies—a core cost driver in EVs—positions Hyundai as a serious player in India’s evolving electric mobility space. Senior Hyundai officials stated that localising components not only reduces dependency on imports, particularly from China and Korea, but also helps the company price its vehicles more competitively in the Indian market. It also enables faster production turnaround and protection from global supply disruptions, as witnessed during the pandemic. This initiative aligns with the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for advanced automotive components and battery manufacturing under ACC (Advanced Chemistry Cell) categories. Hyundai is also working closely with local Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers to ensure quality and technological compatibility with global standards. The localisation of EV components is crucial as Hyundai prepares to roll out more electric models, including locally produced EVs tailored to Indian conditions. The company has already announced significant investment commitments toward its EV ecosystem, including charging infrastructure, R&D, and plant modernization. Industry experts view Hyundai’s localisation strategy as a key differentiator in an increasingly competitive market. With other automakers also betting on India as an export and production hub, Hyundai’s move to localise complex parts such as battery management systems (BMS), motors, and inverters could improve its profitability and agility in both the domestic and global markets. The company’s initiative is expected to create jobs, boost local supplier capabilities, and support India’s goal of becoming a global hub for clean mobility manufacturing. Hyundai’s localisation milestone reaffirms the auto industry’s shift toward sustainable, self-reliant production practices.
