Mabvuku-Tafara MP Hon. Scott Sakupwanya Launches Annual Schools Tournament to Empower Youth Through Sport
In a dynamic show of commitment to youth empowerment and grassroots development, Hon. Pedzai Scott Sakupwanya, Member of Parliament for Mabvuku-Tafara, officially launched the inaugural Hon. Pedzai Scott Sakupwanya Annual Schools Tournament, drawing participation from 14 local schools—10 primary and 4 secondary.
The 3 day-long sporting event featured football and netball competitions, with the Hon. MP personally in attendance to support the young athletes and reaffirm his dedication to improving access to sport and education in the constituency.
Each participating school received a complete playing kit, soccer balls, netball accessories, and a cash grant of USD $10,000. In addition, schools that excelled in the tournament walked away with further cash prizes:
• 1st Place: $10,000
• 2nd Place: $5,000
• 3rd Place: $2,500
• 4th Place: $1,500
Trophies and medals were awarded to top teams in both sports, reinforcing a spirit of excellence, discipline, and community pride.
In his keynote address, Hon. Sakupwanya emphasized that this initiative is not a one-time event, but part of a broader effort to uplift Mabvuku-Tafara’s education system and talent pipeline. He announced that more programs and resources would be rolled out to make learning easier and more inspiring for pupils in the area.
Also in attendance were executives and talent scouts from Scottland Football Club, which has earmarked Mabvuku as the official nurturing ground for the Scottland FC Youth Academy. The Club’s presence signals a long-term investment in local youth development, with future pathways for standout athletes to rise into professional football through the Scottland FC system.
The launch of this tournament marks a pivotal step in transforming Mabvuku-Tafara into a center of academic and sporting excellence.
