The India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) was initiated in September 2023, when a MoU was signed during the 2023 G20 New Delhi Summit by the India, the United States, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union. The route never reached Europe but instead terminated where it was always meant to — Israel. The war that Israel initiated against the general population of Palestine was planned well before October 7. A blockade of the Red Sea route was also anticipated, and to counter that, the IMEC was conceived. Today, the IMEC route is being used to bypass the Houthi blockade — just as it was always intended to do.
