*STORY* Someone recommended a movie titled “As We Are.” It was about a married couple, Alex and Amanda. They were both famous and known for having a “perfect marriage” in the eyes of the public. But behind the scenes, things were different. Alex didn’t respect his wife. He often insulted her in front of others, saying she couldn’t cook or didn’t dress well. Only a few people — his brother, their house help, and Amanda’s close friend — knew what was really going on. Alex believed everything was okay just because he provided food, clothes, and a house. He didn’t realize how much his words and actions were hurting Amanda. One day, Amanda decided to make him feel what she felt. She told Alex that he wasn’t well dressed — and even said his brother looked better. That small comment opened his eyes. He realized how disrespectful he had been. Alex later admitted that he didn’t know any better because that’s how he saw his parents behave. He thought his mother was fine, but his brother told him she was actually suffering in silence. In the end, Alex and Amanda made a video, telling the world the truth: their marriage wasn’t as perfect as it looked. They promised to change and be honest from now on. It was a 2-hour, 37-minute movie full of drama — and lessons. *REFLECTION* This movie made me stop and think. Many of us pretend in public — smiling, posting pictures, and acting like everything is perfect — while crying in private. We care more about what people on social media will say than how we truly feel inside. Sometimes, we even begin to hate our own lives just because we see others “doing better” online. But the truth is, we don’t know what’s really happening behind their closed doors. A happy post doesn’t always mean a happy life. This story reminded me to be real. To stop faking. And to never compare my life to what I see online. We never know what people are hiding behind their smiles.
