Highlanders F.C has received a US$1 million sponsorship deal from Sir Wicknell, of which the club will get US$250,000 cash immediately.
The US$1 million deal is for a year to help the club sign new players and cover administrative costs, Chivayo said.
He explained that he was supporting Highlanders, financially, in honour of his uncle, the late Vice President John Landa Nkomo. In that regard, Chivayo appointed VP Nkomo's son, Jabulani as a curator to oversee the appropriate use of the money.
This follows allegations of embezzlement of US$5,000 by a former CEO.
Chivayo last year cleared the debt whiich was owed to former Bosso coach Baltemar Brito and his assistant. The coaches had sought a FIFA ban but Chivayo came to the rescue.
"It is my humble CONVICTION, that there should be significant private-sector involvement in sports development, in order to make a NOTABLE difference to the game of FOOTBALL. This also aligns well with His Excellency, President E. D. Mnangagwa’s clarion call for PRIVATE BUSINESSES to partner with Government in developing the SOCIO-ECONOMIC aspirations of our Nation under VISION 2030. Siyinqaba! Ngenkani siyaphambili," he said.
