World Day Against Child Labour is observed on 12th June each year to raise global awareness and promote action to eliminate child labour. Initiated by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2002, the day underscores the plight of millions of children forced into labour, often in hazardous conditions, depriving them of education and childhood. It supports SDG Target 8.7, which aims to end child labour in all its forms by 2025. In India, despite laws like the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, child labour persists due to poverty, lack of education, and weak enforcement. Government schemes like Mid-Day Meal, Right to Education Act, and National Child Labour Project (NCLP) aim to tackle this issue. Active participation from civil society and stricter implementation of laws are essential to achieve the goal of a child-labour-free world.
